Coptic Cairo & Abu Serga

مصر القديمة وكنيسة أبي سرجة

Historic churches inside the Babylon fortress, including the crypt linked in tradition to the Holy Family.

Coptic Cairo grew inside and around the Roman fortress of Babylon. Within a few lanes stand some of Egypt's oldest churches, among them the Hanging Church, built over the fortress gate, and the Church of Saints Sergius and Bacchus (Abu Serga), whose crypt is linked in tradition to the Holy Family's stay in Egypt. The Ben Ezra Synagogue and the Coptic Museum are steps away.
