Red Sea coast

ساحل البحر الأحمر

Coral reefs, resort towns and marine protected areas from Hurghada to the far south.

Egypt's Red Sea coast runs for more than a thousand kilometres, from the Gulf of Suez to the Sudanese border, with coral reefs close to shore along much of its length. Hurghada, El Gouna, Safaga, Marsa Alam and the Sinai resorts of Sharm El Sheikh and Dahab offer beaches, diving, snorkelling, kitesurfing and boat trips, with protected areas such as Ras Mohammed and the Giftun islands.

Highlights

  • Reef snorkelling straight from the shore
  • Diving at Ras Mohammed and the Straits of Tiran
  • Kitesurfing at El Gouna and Ras Sudr
  • Dolphin and dugong areas near Marsa Alam

Good to know

  • Use reef-safe sunscreen and never stand on or touch coral.
  • Choose dive centres that follow mooring and environmental rules.
