الأقصر (طيبة القديمة)
The New Kingdom capital: Karnak and Luxor Temple on the east bank, the royal tombs on the west.
Luxor, ancient Thebes, was the capital of Egypt for much of the New Kingdom. The east bank holds the temples of Karnak and Luxor; the west bank, the 'city of the dead', holds the Valley of the Kings, the Valley of the Queens, the mortuary temple of Hatshepsut and the Colossi of Memnon. UNESCO lists the whole area as Ancient Thebes with its Necropolis.
