Luxor Temple

معبد الأقصر

Temple of Amenhotep III and Ramesses II in the heart of Luxor, beautiful after sunset.

Luxor Temple stands in the centre of modern Luxor beside the Nile. Built mainly by Amenhotep III and Ramesses II, it was linked to Karnak by an avenue of sphinxes nearly three kilometres long, used for the annual Opet festival procession. A single obelisk still stands at its entrance; its twin has stood in the Place de la Concorde in Paris since the nineteenth century.
