المتحف المصري بالتحرير

The 1902 museum on Tahrir Square, a landmark of Egyptology with the Narmer Palette and royal statues.

The Egyptian Museum on Tahrir Square opened in 1902 and is one of the oldest archaeological museums in the Middle East. Its neoclassical halls hold tens of thousands of objects from the Predynastic period to the Graeco-Roman era, from royal statues and the Narmer Palette to the treasures of Yuya and Tjuya. Some star collections have moved to newer museums, yet the building itself remains a landmark of Egyptology.

Highlights

  • The Narmer Palette
  • Old Kingdom statues such as Rahotep and Nofret
  • The treasures of Yuya and Tjuya
