Marsa Alam

مرسى علم

The quiet southern Red Sea, known for turtles, dolphins and Wadi el-Gemal.

Marsa Alam, in the far south of Egypt's Red Sea coast, is quieter and less built-up than the northern resorts. Its reefs and sheltered bays are known for encounters with dolphins, sea turtles and, at a few sites, dugongs, and it is the gateway to the Wadi el-Gemal protected area.

Highlights

  • Snorkelling with turtles in sheltered bays
  • Dolphin reef trips (with responsible operators)
  • Wadi el-Gemal protected area

Good to know

  • Keep distance from dolphins and dugongs and never chase or touch them.
